The Advent Gathering 2015

Lights by John BoulbyFRIENDS from Dalton Baptist Church, Longley and Lowerhouses Community Church and Milnsbridge Baptist Church joined together for a time of prayer, reflection and thanksgiving looking at various aspects of Advent.

Heather Boulby, who designed the Advent prayer stations around the church, welcomed everyone and led the worship. Advent candle wreaths belonging to each of the three churches were placed on the central table and two candles were lit on each.

There were places of quiet activity - and noisy activity. People were invited to do as much - or as little - as they wished.

Joolz writes: "For me, one of the highlights was being able to enjoy some quiet reflective time. Silence is such a luxury for me these days - there always seems to be lots going on and I find it hard to detach. I was particularly moved by one prayer station looking at time - there was a clock and a lantern. Actually sitting there watching a clock move in seconds made me realise just how long a second is - so how come time keeps flying? It made me focus on how I spend my time."

Tree of ornamentsThere were lots of opportunities to be creative including making swords from pipecleaners - then turning them into something new and hanging them on a special tree. Swords were turned into friendship bracelets, lovehearts and ornaments. The youngsters had great fun modelling with plasticine and making Advent calendars.

The morning ended with the singing of Once in Royal David's City around a table of Advent lights.
